James Halverson Waldron passed away at his home in Columbus, Ohio on May 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A son of David R. "Bill" Waldron and Carmen Halverson Waldron, Jim was born on June 2, 1937 in Brigham City, Utah and raised with two younger sisters in Tremonton, Utah. As a boy, summers were spent on the farm thinning beets and on the water at Bear Lake. He was also an avid reader and especially enjoyed books by Louis L'Amour.
Jim graduated from Bear River High School and earned a BS degree from Utah State University in 1959. He was affiliated with Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and a graduate of the USU Air Force ROTC Program. After graduation, Jim was commissioned an officer in the US Air Force where he served for three years, stationed in the UK working with the British Royal Air Force. Following his military service, Jim enrolled in the MBA program at Stanford University. He worked as an intern for Proctor and Gamble, Inc., and was hired as a permanent employee in 1964.
While living in California, Jim met the love of his life, Cheryl Harless, a music educator from Wellston, Ohio. They were married on February 20, 1966 and later sealed in the Bountiful, Utah Temple. Together they raised two wonderful children. They traveled extensively throughout the world and built a second home in St. George, Utah.
Jim began his career as P & G Sales Rep in the western US, and, after a few years, was transferred to the company headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio where he rose to the position of Promotion Development Manager. He retired in 2004, after 40 years of loyal service. After 47 years in Cincinnati, Jim and Cheryl moved to Columbus, Ohio.
Jim was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Among his church callings, he particularly loved serving with his wife in the Louisville and Columbus temples for over 10 years.
Jim was a loving and devoted father and encouraged and supported his children in all of their interests and endeavors. When his young daughter's soccer team needed a coach, Jim volunteered-even though he had no expertise or experience. He soon became a member of the Board of Directors of the soccer league and then served as President for over 40 years. Under his leadership, the Girls Southeast Cincinnati Soccer Assn. grew and flourished and became affiliated with the United States Soccer Assn. In 2017, Jim was named the regional winner of the US Youth Soccer Administrator of the Year Award-presented to him at the National Youth Soccer Convention in Los Angeles. Upon his retirement from the league, a soccer training facility in Amelia, Ohio was officially named "Waldron Soccer Park" in his honor.
Of all his accomplishments, Jim's greatest joy was always his family. He found his greatest happiness in loving and caring for his four grandchildren. He also loved ice cream, peanut M & M's, and homemade raisin cookies! Jim was a patriot and a man of strong character-never speaking ill of another, giving freely of his time, and always reflecting a strong work ethic. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Deborah A. Waldron, son David Harless Waldron (Jennifer), grandson William James Hamon-Waldron, triplet granddaughters Sara, Jessica and Megan Waldron, sisters Susan Sweet, and Nancy (Peter) Ennenga, and several nieces and nephews.
